Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Corporation (TISCO) is the cradle of Vietnam Metallurgical Industry. Established since 1959, TISCO is the only industrial zone in Vietnam with closed metallurgical production line from iron ore to blast furnace-steel making- continuous casting and rolling.

On 29 November, 1963 the first pig-iron batch was poured out from blast furnace. This important event ushered a new development orientation for our national economy. Over past 45 years of developing and growing, TISCO’s products have been used in the most main construction works of nation such as: Hoabinh, Yaly hydroelectric plant, North-South 500KV electric wire, Thanglong Bridge, Chuongduong Bridge…. and many other construction works.

Investment project for reform and production extension of TISCO phase I has completed and run effectively since end of 2001. Steel billet output has been increased to 300,000 MT/year. A rolling mill with 300,000 MT/year in capacity, under Italian modern technology is being completed by TISCO. The mill will be under operation in July 2004, increasing steel products output to 650,000 MT/year.

At present, TISCO is implementing investment project for production extension phase II with total investment capital over VND 3,000 billion. End of 2005, the project will be under operation and steel billet output will be reached from 750,000 to 1,000,000 MT/year.
