National University at present time is serving as:

A credible and largest Incubator of economic and business managers in Vietnam. It currently has 44,000 students, a team of 676 lecturers (of which, there are 26 professors, 87 associate professors, 221 doctor degree holders, and 299 masters), and 23 faculties with 8 majors including Economics, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accounting, Economic Information System, Law, English language and Computer Science. Besides degree granting programmes, it regularly offers intensive training courses in economics, and business administration for economic managers and practitioners nationwide.

NEU has so far provided many generations of dynamic managers adaptable to the market economy and capable of acquiring new technologies. Among its graduates, there are many people who are holding important posts in agencies and bodies of the Party, National Assembly, Government, and companies as well.

A large center tor economic research: The researches conducted by the center mainly support activities like training, making economic policies of the Party, the Government, industries, localities, and business strategies of enterprises; It continues to be the place of cuiting-edge economic and business researches of the country, tt is assigned a lot of important and big-scale research programmes by the Government. Besides, it has cooperated with many international institutions and organisations to conduct joint research programmes.

A center for consulting and transfer of technology of economic and business management. It makes a significant contribution in providing central and local level organisations and agencies as well as enterprises in Vietnam with consulting services. Its profound influence over the whole Doi Moi process has been reinforced by the close links it has with the Government bodies and businesses.

NEU has adopted extensive international cooperation programmemes in terms of training and research with many prestigious international academic institutions and organizations across continents, namely Russia, People's Republic of China, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the UK, France, the US, Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Thailand, and many others. Especially, it has received sponsorship from many Governments and international organizations such as SIDA (Sweden), UNFPA, the Government of Netherlands, ODA(the UK), UNDP, World Bank, Ford Foundation, Hanns Seidel Foundation, and others to conduct research, develop curricula, and deliver Master programmes in the fields of Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Development Economics, and intensive training courses on market economy. Meanwhile, it has had close connection with many foreign companies to organize training courses, conduct research and sponsor students.

Within the span of a half of a century of its establishment and development, it has recorded a lot of great achievements and received many noble titles awarded by the Party and the Government, namely the Labor Order of the third class for the period of 1961-1972, the second class in 1978, the first class in 1983, the Independence Order of the third class in 1986, the second class in 1991, and thefirstclass in 1996, the title of Labor Hero in 2000, and the Ho Chi Minh Order in 2001.

Since its establishment NEU has always paid special attention to set up and develop international academic relations. To date, it has been linked with over 100 academic institutions from 30 countries. Its partners range from distinguished universities of the former USSR to well-known ones of Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, USA, and so on. In the early years of the renovation, it received support from the governments of many countries such as the Government of the Netherlands and the Government of the UK, and international organizations such as SIDA (Sweden), UNDP, World Bank, Ford Foundation, Hanns Seidel Foundation, CIDA (Canada) and others.

The international cooperation programmes have made significant contributions to the university's achievements. As a notable result of these programmes, the university has become prestigious in terms of training and research in the fields of economics and business management. The rapid growth and the progress made by the university's faculty members have mainly been attributed to the international cooperation programmes as well.
