Hanoi became China Airlines!| second destination in Vietnam since 2003. The passengers on these services are mostly business and leisure travelers as well as overseas Vietnamese. In addition, China Airlines runs a daily service codeshare cooperation on Vietnam Airlines!| Kaohsiung-Ho Chi Minh flights. Beginning from May 17, there will be 5 daily flights between Taiwan and Vietnam on the China Airlines network. China Airlines also inaugurated a cargo service to Ho Chi Minh with 2 flights per week in March 2003. As a result, China Airlines is the largest operator of air transportation services between Taiwan and Vietnam.

Vietnam has enjoyed an annual GDP growth rate of more than 6.5% since 2000, and is the fastest-growing economy in Southeast Asia. Taiwan is an important trade partner for Vietnam: it is Vietnam's second largest supplier of imports, and sixth largest export market. The two nations maintain a close trade relationship.

With a population of 3 million, Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, and is the cultural and economic center of northern Vietnam. With the added frequency, passengers on business or pleasure travel will have more flexibility in arranging their trips.
